Dublin's surgeon-anatomists and other essays by William Doolin
Despite his commitments as visiting surgeon to two Dublin voluntary hospitals, William Doolin, FRCSI, held the editorial chair of the Irish Journal of Medical Science from 1925 till his death in 1962. He belongs to a long-established tradition which links medicine and literature. He delivered the Thomas Vicary Lecture before the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1950. His subject on that occasion, 'Dublin's surgeon-anatomists' provides a title for a collection of essays on the history of medicine published to commemorate the centenary of his birth and to introduce him to a new generation of readers.
